The club’s League continues with most participants up to Round 3. This round utilises the full ruleset (but still No Retreat), and the mission adds two classified objectives on top of the annihilation style scoring used thus far.

The Table:
2016-04-19 Infinity

Both of my games were played on the same table this week.

Game 1:
This was a painful game. Rich won the roll-off and took first turn. I chose the table edge to the right of the above image and told Rich to deploy first. His force had a fairly even distribution across the table width, which I countered by setting up my Rodok Fireteam in a defensible location int eh centre of my deployment zone. I knew that there would be a first turn Su-Jian rush, and I needed to be able to weather the assault. I had my Yaogat prone up in the watch tower, and my Kurgat on my far right flank (the top of the above image) with the intention to run up and Sabotage the green fuel tank like object. I was hoping that he would be overlooked, with the main focus of attention on the dominating Rodok presence.

I was proved wrong. Rich determined that that flank was the weak one, and maneuvered the Su-Jian up and took out the Kurgat. Fortunatley the Su-Jian got no further – between moving him up, using a Hsien HMG to kill my Gaki before going into Suppression Fire, and my own reducion of his order pool (yay for Command Tokens!), he had run out of orders.

The Yaogat stood up and put a single Panzerfaust into the Su-Jian, rolling a crit. The Su-Jian’s luck worsened when Rich failed the two remaining ARM rolls. Just to add instult to injury (and because there was a Sophotect on the board), The Yaogat lay down prone again, and shot with his Combi Rifle as he did so. Preventing the Su-Jian from standing up ever again. My Preta (now Dogged from his impetuous movement into the Suppression Fire) then charged forward and was able to take a wound from the Hsien with his chain Rifle, before failing to wound in Close Combat.

With the Suppression Fire now broken, the Rodoks advanced forwards and bunkered themselves in the centre of the table.

This is where it all started falling apart. The Preta died at the end of my turn (because of Dogged), and this allowed the Hsien to sidle around the snow bank and take out the Rodok HMG (poor placement meant that he wasn’t in cover). Rich then sent up a link of 3 Kuang Shi who were able to get into Chain Rifle range, where it was then discovered that Rodoks can neither Dodge, nor make ARM rolls against these brainwashed prisoners. One single Kuang Shi accounted for the rest of my Rodok link, only taking a single wound that Dogged allowed him to ignore for just long enough.

While on my following turn, I was able to use my sensor remote and Yaogat to kill off the offending Kuang Shi. Rich took out my Yaogat, leaving me with one model which was unable to make a difference to the outcome of the game.

A 7-0 victory to Rich gave him 3 TP, and myself 0.
Game 2:
This was also a painful game, but at least this time I was dishing rather than receiving. I won the roll-off this time, and opted to stay on the same side as last time, making Paul set up his force first, where Rich had been in the previous game.

Paul had placed his HVT by the inside corner of the L-shaped building to my left (the bottom of the picture above). As both of my Classified revolved around interacting with his HVT with either my Hacker or Paramedic, I opted to go for a denied flank approach and skewed my entire force to that table edge.

Paul’s first turn had him try to glue my Rodok Missile Launcher with one of his remotes (it did not end favourably for the remote), and then exchanging long range fire with my Yaogat across the centre of the table whilst the Hungries dodged forwards.

On my turn, the Hungries ran forwards into view of a Moira with HMG. One got lucky, the other not so much… Pouring the rest of my orders into the Rodoks, I was able to advance them up to one of the long edges of the L-shaped building and get the HVT: Espionage classified, before peeking around the corner and knocking the Moira with HMG unconscious, and forcing a Reverand Healer into retreat. Taking the Hungries Irregular Order and converting it into a Regular Order, I was able to Super-Jump the HMG Rodok high enough to see the Healer over the snow banks and put her out of her misery.

Pauls’ retaliatory turn saw him advance a Camo token from the centre of the board, back towards my deployment zone. Partway, I caught a brief glimpse of the token with a Rodok who was able to discover the Bandit trusting in the strength of his Camoflage. With orders being tight, he burst around a corner, unloading his shotgun into my Kurgat, but not before the Kurgat dropped a mine as a last act of protection for the Yaogat Lt. Opting to eat the Mine blast, and try and tank the damage, the Bandit advanced and shot at the Yaogat. Unfortunatley for him, neither gambits worked in his favour and he died.

I then used my Rodoks to advance further and claim my HVT: Inoculation classified, before managing a 2-for-1 with my Burst 4 Light Shotguns, taking out 2 Moderators at once by virtue of the templates. My final order of this turn was to Super-Jump my HMG Rodok once again to get a bead on Paul’s Grenzer sniper. While I certainly felt the effects of the Low-Vis and Saturation Zone that the Grenzer was hiding in, it was not enough. Paul used his final turn to try and hide his last model, a Moira with Hacking Device Plus, utilising the same Low-vis and Saturation zone that had failed his Grenzer, though this time, clever placement with a fence would have made it hard for my Rodoks to pull off the same trick twice.

Due to some careless placement after finding this “perfect” hiding spot, the Moira now had her back to my Yaogat, who used this “distraction” to advance and generously give her his single remaining Panzerfaust shot, ignoring her ODD, the Low-Vis zone, and as it was only Burst 1 to start with, effectively ignored the Saturation zone too.

This netted me a 10-0 victory, and 3TP, putting my average score for round 3 at 2TP (3TP, divided by 2 games, rounded up to 2, from 1.5).
